Health Education and Counseling
Health education is given individually to each patient. The aim of this interaction is to increase the population’s knowledge and awareness of health issues and to increase the capacity of patients to better maintain their own health.
Health workers also distribute health materials to clients, as these are available. One health worker serves as IEC coordinator. The Clinic has a resource center to provide health workers and the public with materials in a variety of languages, such as Burmese and Karen.
The Clinic also sponsors health campaigns during the year for events such as World AIDS Day, World Enviroment Day, and an Anti-Drugs Campaign.
In the future it is planned to have increased random patient exit interviews. These will help evaluate the patient’s understanding of the health education given in consultation. Clarity and comprehension are especially important for more effective prevention of malaria and for the proper use of medicines. |
