The Clinic provides medical services for Burmese migrants in Thailand and for the thousands who come from Burma each year seeking medical help. Why do they come? Essentially because there are little or no medical facilities in their local areas in Burma. Only a tiny fraction of the national budget is invested in public health. Most of the Burmese migrants who live in the Mae Sot area are unregistered. Hence they are always liable to arrest and deportation. Those who have work often work in factories where they are paid very poor wages. This makes it impossible for them to pay for medical services.
