Tuberculosis Case Finding and Referral

OPD refers patients suspected of having TB to Médécins Sans Frontières for lab confirmation and treatment. IPD sends three sputum samples to MSF for every patient who has a cough; 115 patients were TB sputum positive. In IPD, when TB patients are very ill, they are admitted for treatment until stable and then referred to MSF. A lumbar puncture is preformed for patients with suspected TB meningitis and treatment is given upon lab confirmation. Some sputum negative or extra pulmonary TB cases are treated or referred to MSF. Most lab confirmed cases and fatalities were from males and Burma residents.
